Problem–solving scenarios
• In small groups, have students examine problem scenarios that are relevant to the class e.g. there is only one blue crayon and two people want to use it; someone takes a ball from another in the playground. Ask each group to talk about the problem and role play how they would solve the problem. Each group performs their role play for the rest of the class. Use these questions again, to focus the students’ observation:
- what do you SEE each person doing?
-
- what do you HEAR each person saying?
- how do you FEEL about what is happening?
• Hold a class discussion based around the following questions:
- how do you feel when someone does not share with you? What can you do?
- how do you feel if someone is not being nice to you? What can you do?
- what are some of the rules we have when we are working in groups?
- what are some of the rules we have when playing in the playground? What can you do if someone is not following these rules?
